Sabre has helped Virgin Australia transition from a low-cost airline to a premium carrier since the agreement was struck in 2013.
The multi-year extension to the existing agreement, announced overnight in the US, expands the airline’s relationship with the Texas-based Sabre, one of the world’s largest travel technology companies, which has helped automate Virgin’s processes such as reservations, inventory and departure controls.
Under the new agreement, Sabre will work with Virgin Australia to identify opportunities for revenue generation and guest satisfaction enhancements.
“We believe Sabre’s technology will help fuel the growth of Virgin Australia’s business by providing new solutions that differentiate them and provide new marketing capabilities with their airline partners,” Sabre Airline Solutions president Hugh Jones told The Australian in a statement yesterday.
“By expanding our technology footprint across the airline with our customer-centric solutions, Virgin Australia can make a significant impact on continually elevating the travel experience.”
The agreement also enables the use of Sabre’s shopping capabilities, mobile solutions and other software to support the premium airline’s focus on highly personalising the travel experience.
The renewal of the agreement will enable Virgin Australia to progressively implement a wide range of Sabre solutions, including retailing and personalisation solutions.
These include establishing a customer data hub, a customer experience manager and dynamic retailer.
Virgin Australia’s chief information officer, Lawrie Turner, said the airline’s partnership with Sabre had enabled Virgin to strengthen its global presence with customers, alliance partners and sales partners.
“We are now building on this partnership, and will work with Sabre to ensure we deliver a seamless, world-class customer experience across all international and domestic markets”, Mr Turner said.
Virgin’s partner Etihad is also a customer of Sabre.
